Late Diagnosis

Diagnosed with ADHD at 90

Diagnosed with ADHD at 90.

She said “And so I grew up thinking I was naughty, talkative, lazy, untidy, and slow. I prayed to God every night to make me “good.”

This comment really resonates with me. Just the other day, I was talking to Cara Marks CIPD about how, as a kid, I used to lie in bed and wish that the next day would be better. I struggled with a part of myself that I called ‘Bad Gary’ and I would wonder why I couldn’t stop being bad. I didn’t like making people mad at me and I felt lonely, confused, ashamed, and disappointed in myself every day.

In my research so far, I can tell you that these experiences are shared by many across the world.

I wish for a world where no child needs to feel like this again because of their undiagnosed ADHD. 😔

Once diagnosed, recognising ADHD helps individuals understand their identity and differentiate between bad behaviour and behaviour stemming from ADHD traits.
